Eight Mile Plains

Eight Mile Plains is one of Brisbane’s southern suburbs. It is located 14.38 kilometres from the CBD and is one of the earliest suburbs settled in Brisbane. The name ‘Eight Mile Plains’ was coined due to its distance by bush track to Woolloongabba.

Eight Mile Plains originally extended beyond the Brisbane City boundary, running through Logan Road into the northern area of Logan City. This part of the suburb, including the southern part of Rochedale and Springwood was later on renamed as Underwood and declared as a new suburb.

Demographics

Population: Eight Mile Plains has a recorded population of 13,379 as per the 2011 census.  50.3% of which are females and 49.7% are males. The median age of the population was 32 years old, which was 5 years below the Australian median age at the time.

  • Private Vehicle – Major arterial roads connected to the suburb grants its residents access to almost anywhere. With arterial roads going to the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast as well as the City close by, makes weekend getaways very easy.

Schools

Eight Mile Plains has two primary schools. Eight Mile Plains State Schools which caters students from Prep to Year 7 and Warrigal Road State School. Although the suburb has no high school within its premises, Rochedale State High School, MacGregor State High School and Redbank State High School are nearby and easily accessible.

Clubs and Sports

The suburb is littered with parks making it the best for outdoor lovers. Aside from parks, the suburb offers multiple sports and fitness facilities within the suburb. Being connected to major arterial roads grants access to more recreational facilities in the nearby suburbs as well.

Aside from sports and fitness, one of Eight Mile Plains’ most notable landmark is the Brisbane Technology Park – The largest technology precinct in Queensland and is also the biggest, most prestigious business park.
